Overview
On July 21 the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) and Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) announced a notice of intent to fund not less than $20 million to accelerate the deployment of carbon management by providing technical assistance for large scale storage facilities and regional carbon management hubs that could store hundreds of millions of tons of carbon dioxide.
The intent of this funding opportunity will be to award projects that provide stakeholders in each region with ‘technical assistance’ to fill the cost and performance knowledge gaps to enable deployment of carbon management activities, including carbon capture, utilization, and storage for industrial and power sector emissions mitigation and carbon dioxide removal. Projects will support project developers and states seeking technical assistance in developing large scale storage facilities and gathering data and information to inform stakeholders, state agencies, and legislatures needing technical assistance when developing policy, regulatory structures, and incentives for the deployment of carbon management.
