Overview

The combined objectives of reducing oil and natural gas wastewater volume, beneficial reuse of subsurface energy industry wastewater, potential mitigation of induced seismicity, and characterization and/or recovery of critical resources from oil/natural gas produced water and/or coal combustion residuals wastewater associated with coal power generation are the drivers for this Funding Opportunity Announcement.

The AOIs of this FOA are:

  • AOI 1 – Characterizing, Managing, and Treating Oil/Natural Gas Produced Water for Beneficial Use and the Potential Recovery of Rare Earth Elements (REEs), Critical Minerals (CMs), and Elements of Interest (EOIs); shall include at least one university partner
  • AOI 2 – Field Operation of Oil and Natural Gas Produced Water Consortium; shall include multidisciplinary teams that contain university and industry partners
  • AOI 3 – Characterization and Treatment of Coal Combustion Residuals Wastewater Associated with Coal Power Generation for Groundwater Impact and Rare Earth Elements (REEs), Critical Minerals (CMs), and Elements of Interest (EOIs)
